Barry Charles Truelove

Barry Truelove ObitBarry Charles Truelove, Sr., age 75, of Carrollton, passed away Monday, August 24, 2020 at Medical City Dallas. He was born October 25, 1944 in Belton to parents, Hoyt Truelove and Cora Athlene Milsap Truelove. He graduated from Amarillo High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in education from West Texas State University. Barry was a veteran of the United States Army and a retired teacher and beloved coach. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved traveling the country in his RV to fish and see family. His first love was coaching. Even after retirement, he continued to attend games and offer advice to his kids and grandkids.

Barry is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kim Truelove of Carrollton; daughters, Stacy Akins and husband, Damon of Dumas, Cari Truelove of Amarillo, Keli Truelove and fiancée, Holly of Aurora, CO; son, B.J. Truelove and wife, Kristina of Kingsville; grandchildren, Matthew and Sabrina Akins of Canyon, Dugan Akins and fiancée, Lauryn of Lewisville, Maggie Akins of Dumas, Annie Akins of Dumas, Jonathan and Chelsea Truelove of Livingston, Zachary Truelove of Livingston, Nicholas Truelove of Livingston, Abigail Truelove of Livingston; brothers, Hoyt Truelove and wife, Priscilla of Burnet, Alan Truelove of Rocksprings; numerous other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by parents, Hoyt Truelove and Cora Meredith; and brothers, Larry “Socky” Truelove and Cecil Truelove.

A memorial service for Barry Charles Truelove Sr. will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2020 in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel in Crockett, Texas.

  4. Coach Truelove stands out among all of those who positively influenced me. That includes all of the other coaches and teachers in high school, all of the faculty I encountered at West Point, all of the excellent leaders I encountered during my military career, and all of the excellent leaders I encountered in my post-military work. Barry Truelove was ahead of them all.

    I’m sad that Barry Truelove has died, but I’m happy that he lived and created excellence all around him.
