Bennie Gillum

Bennie Gillum, Sr., age 81, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at his home in Crockett. He was born December 22, 1935 in Parkdale, AR to parents, Terrell Gillum and Gertie Poole Gillum.

Bennie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandy Gillum; sons, Jimmy Ray Gillum, Terry Gray and wife, Vicki, Benjie Gillum; daughter, Dianna Reed and husband, Randy; grandchildren, Heather Helberg and husband, Ryan, Skylar Gray and wife, Jessa, Tucker Gray and wife, Amber, Amy Gillum, Nathan Gillum, Cody Gillum and wife, Carla, Josh Gillum and wife, Shelly, Shelby Kazmierczak and husband, Jake, Tyler Reed, Cameron Reed; great-grandchildren, Jaden Helberg, Evaine Gray, Addisynn Gillum, Ali Nicole Gillum, Paisley Gillum, Brantliegh Gillum, Jaxon Kazmierczak; five brothers; life-long friends, Bennie Rush and Hesta Fay Bobbitt; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gillum was preceded in death by his parents, Terrell and Gertie Poole Gillum; brother, Wimp Gillum; sisters, Delia Jean Smith and Dorothy Mae McPherson.

Memorial services for Bennie Gillum, Sr. will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Fellowship Church.



  1. I had the pleasure of meeting Bennie when his baby girl married my brother. He was such a kind man, he loved his wife, kids, and grandkids. My prayers are with Dianna, Randy, Tyler and Cameron.
    To Sandy and the rest of the family I will be praying for you also that peace will come to you just remember that he was a great man to all that had the pleasure of meeting him.

  2. My family has had the pleasure of knowing Bennie and his family for the past 10 years. Always looked forward to his visits when we would come up from Galveston to my brother’s place just down the road from Bennie’s. He would come by and sit a spell on the back porch and always had great stories to tell. Although not long on words, what he said was always Gospel truth.

    Sadly missed.
