Billy Ray McPherson

Billy Ray McPherson 2

Billy Ray McPherson, age 76, of Ratcliff, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2019 in Hospice in the Pines, Lufkin.  Billy Ray was born December 3, 1942 in Graham, TX to parents, Edgar Davis McPherson and Irene Eunice Lemons McPherson. He grew up in around the Ft. Worth and Breckenridge areas later moving  to work in the oil field.  From there he moved to Oklahoma to work in a papermill plant then to Deer Park working  in chemical plants around the Houston area.   He married Barbara Sue McDougal in March, 1961 in Palo Pinto County and they had two children, Amanda and Allen Ray.  When both children left home, Billy Ray and Barbara moved to central Texas and were long haul truck drivers.  Barbara passed away in 1997 and afterwards he continued to drive 18 wheelers cross country.  Moving to Laredo, he met and married Candelaria Escobar and after her death earlier this year, he relocated to East Texas to live with his daughter, Amanda, filling his days with cooking and grilling.  Fishing was his love, talking often about it, also enjoyed eating out and his favorites included fried catfish, chips, salsa and coconut cream pie and was very passionate about driving the shinyest car.

Billy was known for “phone calls”, checking on friends and family every day and after retiring from trucking, he would call people rather than traveling to places.  Always aware of the national and state news and weather, kept everyone updated of these happenings.  Billy was a proud American and loved Trump, proudly wearing his “Make America Great Again 2020” cap everywhere he went.  He met many new friends through his cap and would shake their hands and smile.

Billy lost his mother at a very young age then his lost his dad while Billy was in his late 30’s, therefore, family was always very important to him.  He always was a good provider for his family and will be missed by all his family and friends.

Billy is survived by daughter, Amanda Stubblefield and husband, Lynn of Ratcliff; granddaughters, Jenny Nicole Johnson and husband, Brian of Liberty, Lacey Lynn Stubblefield of College Station, Mayra Annette Castillo of Fayetteville, NC; great-grandson, Braden Shawn Johnson of Liberty; brothers, David Lee McPherson and wife, Anna Jean of Brownsboro, Jerry Wayne McPherson and wife, Theresa of Azle; sister, Alice Faye Stephens and husband, Charles of Haltom City; numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by son, Allen Ray McPherson; parents, Edgar David McPherson and Irene Eunice Lemons McPherson; first wife, Barbara Sue McDougal McPherson; second wife, Candelaria Escobar McPherson.
