Creola Wilcox Hughes, age 87, of Crockett passed away surrounded by her family Thursday, February 6, 2020. She was born in the Arbor Community, August 4, 1932 to parents, Arthur and Lena Smith. She attended school in Crockett and     co-owned and operated Wilcox Construction for more than 50 years with her husband, James. Creola and James were very dedicated to their service at the SPJST Lodge serving as president and secretary for many years. She was also a member and treasurer for Truly God’s Country Cowboy Church.

Creola is survived by her sons, James Edward “Eddie” Wilcox of Crockett, Jim Hughes of Grapeland, Tim Hughes of Crockett; daughter-in-law, Melissa Brewer of Plum Grove; grandchildren, Misty Marlow of Katy, Kristina Johnson and husband, Markus of Hudson, James Wilcox of Willis, Chrystal Wilcox of Lufkin, Maigan Brewer of Plum Grove; great-grandchildren, Jacob Marlow of Katy, Preslee Johnson of Hudson, Joslynn Johnson of Hudson, Tyler Wilcox of North Dakota, Allie Wilcox of North Dakota, James David Wilcox, Jr. of Katy; great-great-grandchild, Braylynn Wilcox; best friend, Cindy Bruner; lone survivor, Terry Brewer of Plum Grove; and many other bonus family members. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Smith and Lena Smith; husband, James Wilcox; second husband, Jimmie Hughes; son, Glenn Wilcox; step-son, Charles Hughes; sisters, Marjorie Wills, Verna Luce, Dorothy Lopez.

Funeral services for Creola Wilcox Hughes will be held Monday, February 10, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Bro. Gene Kellum officiating. Interment to follow at the Evergreen Memorial Park. Family will receive friends for visitation Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Callaway-Allee Funeral Home.
