  1. I grew up next door to Doc and Doris. Carl Ann and I were best friends from the time we were very small so I spent many many days and nights in their home. Doc and my mother were first cousins and later in life I found out Doris and I were cousins thru the Dickey’s. Doris was an excellent cook and I got to enjoy many meals in their home. She spent so much time using her nursing skills on our family and community, Doris worked diligently taking care of our family cemetery Refuge for many years. We have truly lost an icon in our family, one who knew so much about our family history. Ken, Troy and I sent our sincere condolences and prayers to you and your family. She will be missed by so many.

  2. Ken and Family:
We are so sorry to hear of the passing of your sweet Mom My wife was a patient in the Medical and Surgical Hospital many times as a child with asthma and pneumonia and Ms. Doris was her nurse. Ironically, she also gave my wife her first job as a nurse after graduating from nursing school in 1986. Your Mom and I also played guitar at the Grapeland Senior Citizens Center in Grapeland several times. It was always such a pleasure to see her no matter where we were. May God comfort you at this time as only He can.
    God Bless,
