Emmie Lee Hargrove

Emmie Lee Hargrove picEmmie Lee Hargrove, age 90, of Crockett, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2020.  She was born December 5, 1929 in Madison County to John I Leonard Sr. and Mary Jane Williams Leonard. Emmie Lee moved to Houston County as a small child, where she spent the majority of her lifetime. She was a graduate of Lovelady High School and was Salutatorian of her class.  After her marriage to George Hargrove in 1951, she worked diligently alongside of him for many years in a service and repair business they started and owned, Hargrove Refrigeration until they retired and their longtime employee/son-in-law and daughter took over the business. Her earlier employment history included working at the Houston County Courthouse in the County Clerk’s office, receptionist for KIVY, and clerk for a local abstract company.  Emmie Lee was a member of Central Baptist Church in Crockett.

She was known for her unselfish, sacrificial, and devoted love to her family, always putting others and their needs before her own. She spent countless hours canning and preserving all the vegetables and fruits her husband produced in his garden.  Also many hours were spent babysitting grandchildren and spoiling them, which she delighted in doing.

Emmie Lee is survived by her husband, of 69 years, George Hargrove of Crockett; daughters, Cynthia Hargrove Neel and husband, Calvin of Crockett, Wanda Hargrove Hawley and husband, Bobby of Burnet; grandchildren including, Bradley Neel and wife, Julie of Crockett, Lauren Neel Poe and husband, Brant of Stephenville; great-grandchildren including, Addison Poe and Charlotte “Charli” Poe of Stephenville; a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside funeral services for Emmie Lee Hargrove will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2020 in the Evergreen Memorial Park with Rev. John Goss and Dr. Tim Allen officiating. Family will receive friends for visitation Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Callaway-Allee Funeral Home.
