Gaye LaVerne Gayle Cecil

Gaye CecilGaye Laverne Gayle Cecil, age 86, passed from this life on August 19, 2020 in Crockett. She was born October 19, 1933 in Weldon to the late Richard Benjamin Gayle and Annie Smith Gayle. Her family grew with her brother, Dr. Lelve G. Gayle and sister, Evelyn Gayle Coleman. Gaye married Gerald Cecil in Weldon in her parent’s home in 1952. Gaye and Gerald had two children: Sherald Cecil Wood (David) and Cynthia Cecil Mangum (Albert “Bert”). She was the grandmother of 4 granddaughters: Brittany Mangum Borski (Joel), Misty Mangum Sizemore, Terri Wood Smith (Thomas) and Holly Wood Shrieve (Jason). Gaye was blessed to be the great-grandmother of 10 great-grandchildren: Edward, Evan, Elena, and Elise Borski, Davis Smith, Knox and Crockett Shrieve, Lilly, Cynthia and Marshall Sizemore. A host of family and friends mourn her passing.

Gaye was a beautiful and talented young woman. She was the featured twirler for Lovelady High School where she received numerous awards and recognitions. Gaye was a hair stylist and salon owner in Crockett for years, she loved her clients, and most became good friends. She was a faithful Christian. Gaye and her husband, Gerald were two of the founders of Grace Street Church of Christ in Crockett. She loved and appreciated her second family at Houston County Nursing home who provided loving and tender care during her 15 year stay. She was especially grateful for the many acts of kindness by family and friends through the years.

Graveside services for Gaye Laverne Gayle Cecil will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the Weldon Cemetery, with Evangelist Tony Dominguez officiating. In lieu of floral tributes, those that wish, donations may be made to Grace Street Church of Christ, 124 S. Grace St, Crockett, TX 75835 or the charity of choice. Online condolences may be made at
