George Hargrove

George Hargrove picturesGeorge Hargrove, age 92, of Crockett, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2020 in Enchanted Pines. He was born June 2, 1928 in Wesley Chapel to George Jeffrey Hargrove and Ida Mae Reed Hargrove. He spent the majority of his lifetime in Houston County where he attended Wesley Chapel and Latexo Schools before enlisting in the U.S. Army and proudly serving in WWII. George went through boot camp at Camp Polk, LA and was stationed at Camp Mower, Kyushu Japan.  After serving in the military, he returned home to Houston County where he met and married Emmie Lee Leonard Hargrove in 1951. George, with the help of his wife, worked diligently for many years in a service repair business they started and owned, Hargrove Refrigeration, until they retired and their longtime employee/son-in-law and daughter took over the business. His earlier employment included working together with his brother Charlie in a local business, working at Dow Chemical and at a large electrical contracting company in the Angleton, TX area before returning to Houston County. George was a member of Central Baptist Church, member of the Lothrop Masonic Lodge #21 AF & AM in Crockett, and had served on various boards and committees in the community.

George loved gardening and was known throughout the area for his excellent gardening skills, and was especially known for his superbly tasting tomatoes. He loved family time and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren teaching them his skills of gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time traveling with them. George desperately missed his wife of 69 years whom he lost only 74 days before he passed away.

George is survived by  daughters, Cynthia Hargrove Neel and husband, Calvin of Crockett, Wanda Hargrove Hawley and husband, Bobby of Burnet; grandchildren including, Bradley Neel and wife, Julie of Crockett, Lauren Neel Poe and husband, Brant of Stephenville; great-grandchildren including, Addison Poe and Charlotte “Charli” Poe of Stephenville; a host of other relatives and friends.

George is preceded in death by wife of 69 years, Emmie Lee Leonard Hargrove, brothers, Buddy Hargrove, Johnny Hargrove, Charlie Hargrove, Billy Hargrove and sisters, Opal Jones and Esther Yates.

Graveside funeral services for George Hargrove will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 1, 2020 in the Evergreen Memorial Park with nephew, Rev. Randy Hargrove and great-nephew, Rev. Dean Yates officiating.

  5. PRAYERS OF COMFORT FOR THE FAMILY. MR. HARGROVE WAS THE FIRST REPAIRMAN I MEET AFTER I MOVED TO HOUSTON COUNTY. HE WAS SO NICE AND EXPLAINED WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD I NOT PAID ATTENTION TO MY DRYER CONNECTIONS COMING LOOSE.
