  1. H. D. “Slim” Evans, age 79, of Houston County Lake passed away Friday, May 5, 2017 at his residence. Slim was born February 23, 1938 in Rebecca, Georgia to parents, Horace Ray Evans and Macie Corina Adkinson Evans. He raced stock cars at Daytona Beach, was a veteran in the United States Air Force and chief lab technician at Texas City Refinery for fourteen years. He was a Galveston County Deputy Sheriff for seven years and an auxiliary deputy for an additional four years. Slim was a licensed pilot and had a flying service for a number of years. He retired from TDCJ where he served as a guard and also drove supplies all over Texas. He was licensed to preach in 1976 and was ordained in the late 1990’s pastoring two churches, the busing ministry for over ten years and pastored at the Houston County Lake Marina for 11 ½ years. He owned a ditching service, paint and body shop and a trucking company for many years. Slim was accomplished in many things but when he found The Lord in his thirties, he never stopped working for The Lord. Slim was a member of the North Loop Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife of 57 years, Gloria Sue Evans of Houston County Lake; children, Rhonda Eernisse, Debbie and Ray Stewart, Randy and Pam Eernisse, Tammy Harden, Van Eernisse, Missy and Billy Coyle; grandchildren, Cindy and Nathan Adams, Wendy and Adrian Asevedo, Michael Lindsey, Matthew Coyle, Sarah and Cole Sain, Suzanna Coyle, Mindy and Matt Rapier, David Gomer, Jason Frazier, Amanda and Larry Beard, Amber Eernisse, Eddie Durham, Brandy Durham, Tabby and Wade Maurer, Mindy and Donald Smith, Deanna and Steve Baker, Joey and Codie Harden, Dwayne and Sandra Harden, Elayne and Cody Cox, Claire Eernisse, Ray King, Tommie Sue Eernisse, Duwane Stewart, Keegan Stewart, Danny Hamel, Shelby Houston, Chasidy Houston and Chris Bewley; 54 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by father, Horace Ray Evans; mother, Macie Gagnon; granddaughter, Sabrina Teeder.

Funeral services for H. D. “Slim” Evans will be Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dennis Lowery officiating. Interment will follow in the Denson Cemetery. Family will receive friends for visitation Saturday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association
