Hollis Ellis, age 90, of Crockett passed away Friday, December 1, 2017 in Crockett. He was born May 23, 1927 in Houston County, Texas to parents, Porter Bryant Ellis and Mary Belle Wolf Ellis. He was a member of the Truly God’s Country Cowboy Church and a retired truck driver.

He is survived by his children, Brenda Joyce Nichols and husband, Randy of Humble, Porter Henry Ellis and wife, Ruth of Crockett, Norman Ellis and wife, Sheila of Crockett, and Beverly James of Crockett; sixteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren;  brother, Lonnie Ellis and wife, Bobbie of Crockett; special friend, Peggy Lucas of Crockett; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy LaVoyce Ellis; son, Hollis Ellis, Jr.; granddaughters, Rhonda Turner, Tiffany Ellis, Melissa James; parents, Porter Bryant and Mary Belle Ellis; brothers, Bryant, Lacey, Walter and J. L.; sisters, Lorine, Ruth, Hazel, Beatrice, Lucille, Laverne, and Clara.

Graveside services for Hollis Ellis will be held Monday, December 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Jim English Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Callaway-Allee Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at



  1. Thank you Uncle Hollis for being so good to me growing up. You were a great Uncle to me a great brother-in-law and friend to my daddy. Praying for Brenda, Henry, Norman and Beverly.

  2. Hollis was a good man & he had a good life. He always treated me with respect & I respected him. A person could talk to Hollis & he would give good advise. Hollis will be missed. Prayers going out to family.

Hollis saw some of the best times on earth and it seems we always lose what makes this country a great place to live,but that is Gods plan. My sentiment goes to all of Cousin Hollis’s family.
