Irene Helen Ball, age 86, of Grapeland, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at her residence. Irene was born on November 7, 1932 in Wharton to Ernst Pedersen and Clara Louise Nielsen Pedersen. Irene worked for La Marque School District at the La Marque High School during the early 70’s and also worked for Manor Care (now Ashton Parke Care Center) during the late 70’s – early 80’s. After retiring to Crockett from Texas City with her husband, Marvin, in the mid 80’s, she was a part of several different organizations. Irene moved back to Texas City with her second husband, O. D. Boatman, until 2015 when she moved back to Crockett. She was also a member of Pioneer Baptist Church in Texas City.

Irene is survived by son, Michael Dale Ball and wife, Lori of Texas City; son-in-law, Gary McCalley of Latexo; grandchildren, Matthew Dale Ball and wife, Denise of Dickinson, Steven Michael Ball and partner, Maria Manetas of LaMarque, Calli Kennelly of Elkhart, Christi Kennelly Mehl and husband, Yasine of Jacksonville, FL; five great grandchildren, Riley, Raegan, Carter, Trenton, Shelby; brothers, Laverne Ernst Pedersen of McKinney, Dennis M. Pedersen and wife, League City; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin Earl Ball; daughter, Cynthia Marie McCalley; second husband, O.D. Boatman; parents, Ernst Pedersen and Clara Louise Pedersen; sister, Gladys Sims.

Funeral services for Irene Helen Ball will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019 in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Pastor Michael Williams from Pioneer Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday prior to services.

In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made to Evergreen Memorial Park or to the Dementia Society of America or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
