James Monroe Foster, Jr., age 88, formerly of Grapeland passed away on October 12, 2019. He was born October 28, 1930 in Lamesa to parents Joseph Monroe Foster and Gladys Farrar Foster. James served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, received his Master’s Degree in Education from Eastern New Mexico University, and retired from teaching after 28 years at Odessa Permian High School.

James is survived by his wife, Georgia Foster; sister, JoAnn Clayton; daughters, Kathy Banks and husband, Rod, Chris Foster; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; step-daughter, Sheryl Hopper and husband, Dan; step-sons, Dave Bennett and wife, Carol, Allen Bennett and wife, Teresa; and nephews, Tony Clayton and wife, Kari, Mark Clayton and wife, Ladonna. He was preceded in death by parents, Joseph Monroe and Gladys Foster; wife, Joyce Foster; nephew, Lance Clayton.

Memorial service for James Monroe Foster, Jr. will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2019 in the First United Methodist Church in Grapeland with Rev. Glenda McDonald officiating.

  1. Uncle Jim will surely be missed. He was such a great person and fun to be around. I have a lot of fond memories of him as a child. We lived fairly far apart so we didn’t get to see him and his family that often, but when we did, it was a real treat. I especially loved exchanging our golf game woes over the phone in the last several years. Our prayers are with you Georgia and the entire family.
