Marel James “M.J.” Grant

Marel James “M. J.” Grant of Crockett, Texas formerly of Mauriceville, Texas, passed away on September 21, 2017 in Crockett, Texas.   Born in Kelly, Louisiana on September 24, 1918, he was the son of Amos Duncan and Martha Jane Grant. He was retired from Neches Butane.  He enjoyed gardening and traveling after retirement.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Aline Grant and his second wife Rosalie Grant, his sister and brother-in-law, Doizer and Ora Harris, and Grandson Jeremy Todd Grant.

He is survived by son, Jimmy and Becky Grant of Center, Texas; grandchildren: Danny Grant of Houston, Texas, Jamey Grant of Mauriceville, Texas, Megan Grant Sample of Center, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Rachel Grant, Sarah Grant, Kaylee Grant, Blake Grant, Bryanna Sample, Braelyn McCaffrey, and Bronson Sample.

A joint visitation for Rosalie and Marel will be held at the Callaway-Allee Funeral home in Crockett on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 10:00 am to 12 noon. Graveside services for Marel James “M. J.” Grant will be held Friday, September 29, 2017 at 10:00 am at King Cemetery in Hartburg, Texas.  In lieu of flowers, you may consider a donation towards the Cancer Support Group of Houston County through Pioneer Bank in Crockett or the American Cancer Society.   1. So sorry for the sad news of the passing of Mr Grant and Rosie. They where so loved by my family. They share a lot of holidays with us. Heaven gained two great angels. They will be missed. Praying for your family.

  3. It was the saddest day for me to recieve news about Rosy and Marel. We were our happiest when riding our horses together. So happy I went by to see them the last time I was in Crockett. My prayers to the family. Love always Susie Perry

  6. So very sorry to hear of “uncle” Marvel’s passing. I remember him well from the days when I was little and visiting with my daddy(Robert Peveto) Uncle Able and Aunt Mittie. Then usually Uncle Karel and Aunt Aline would come and we would have a nice visit. I truly cherish those days. Again our deepest sympathies, Mark and Norma Stephenson
