Robert Maurice Welch, age 78, of Houston, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019 in Houston. Maurice was born January 28, 1941 in Seagraves, TX to Matt and Marion Welch. He was raised in Crockett by his grandmother, Georgia Nichols Traylor. He joined the U. S. Air Force and served as a missile guidance systems instructor before becoming ill and was medically discharged. Maurice attended Sam Houston State in Huntsville for a couple of years before deciding to follow in his father’s footsteps as a pipeline welder and later a welding instructor. He was a 32nd degree Mason endowed Scottish Rite member, member of Lotrop Lodge AF&AM #21, a member of the Knights of Pythias, Grand Lodge of Texas, York Rite Masonary Knights Templar Pineywoods Commandery, York Rite, Pineywoods Commandery #88 Lufkin and the Tranquilty Lodge 2000.

Maurice is survived by wife of 33 years, Lilian Welch; daughters, Brandi Daniels, Ali Schmidt and husband, Adam, Adele Garcia and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Tristan Welch, McKennan Lezama, Chase McDow, Robert Garcia, Jr., Adele Garcia, Cathrun Garcia, Curistina Garcia, Christopher Garcia; great-granddaughter, Sophia Merino. He was preceded in death by his son, Kerry Scott Welch; parents, Matt and Marion Welch; brothers, Mike Estes, David Estes; grandmother, Georgia Nichols Traylor.

Funeral services for Robert Maurice Welch will be held at 12 noon Saturday, August 31, 2019 in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel in Crockett.  Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends for visitation Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Callaway-Allee Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Children Hospital.

  1. When my name was Bettye Driskell, I knew and loved Maurice as one of the funniest boys I’ve ever known. Short, blonde, and quick witted.
    Thinking about him now and the times we interacted that made my life a lot easier.

  3. Maurice was a presence in the lives of all who knew him. He was a classmate of my sister and a neighbor of my husband.. He was quick witted, and met life with joy and humor. Marshall and I share fond memories of the little blonde imp. Bon Voyage, my friend!
