Melton Glen Hamblet

Mel HambletMelton Glen “Mel” Hamblet was born on a brisk morning February 7th 1951 to James Green Hamblet and Virginia Mae Hamblet. He is survived by his mother, Virginia Mae Hamblet; husband, David Gessing; ex-wife, Cynthia Kocks and husband, David; brother, Jimmie Hamblet and wife, Bonnie; eldest daughter, Holly Elizabeth Caviness and boyfriend, John Orzechowski; his youngest daughter, Kristen Michelle Hamblet; son, Jimmy Dale Caviness and wife, Lanora, and the apples of his eyes, his precious grandchildren, Hannah Christine Caviness and Zackary Glen Caviness. Boy did he love them, everything he did truly was and is for them. He was a very philanthropic man, he donated money and time to special causes and never said a word to anyone about it. He did not need or want the attention, but he did get excited about “the little things” and oh boy did he love emojis. If you cooked him a meal, he took a picture and thanked you for it. He adored his nephews, Trey Hamblet and wife, Megan and their daughter, Haley McDowell and husband, Michael, Travis Hamblet and wife, Jody and their children, Reagan and Lee Hamblet. Lastly, but certainly not least – Mel loved his “adopted into the family son” J.T McConnell and wife, Krystal. Mel’s family is forever grateful for always tending to his farm when he was in the hospital this year and being such a wonderful friend to him. The love and excitement Mel would get to show somebody something new, mentor them in a skill or show you a “better way to do it” – he was full of wisdom from trials and errors. He has been surrounded by so much love over the last 7 years while battling cancer with grace, humor, love, strength, realism and dignity. He was a proud man and would give you the shirt off his back if he knew it would make a difference in your life in a positive way. Mel was preceded in death by his father, James Green Hamblet and granddaughter, Emily Christine Caviness. We will miss you every moment of every day and “love you much, Paw Paw”

A Memorial Service for Melton Glen Hamblet will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 21, 2020 in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Leon Wallace officiating.
