Norma Dell Monzingo Jones, age 83, of Lovelady passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 at her residence. Norma Dell was born June 10, 1934 in Lovelady to parents, L. H. Monzingo and Eslie Barron Monzingo. She was a graduate of Lovelady High School, attended Stephens College and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a teaching degree. Norma Dell taught for many years in Crockett, also in Porter Springs and was employed by Lovelady ISD. After retiring, she became the Alumni Director for Sam Houston State University, also served on the Lovelady City Council and was appointed Mayor Pro Tem. Being very involved with many organizations through the years, she was a member of the TSTA/NEA, DAR and Sam Houston Alumni also a longtime member of the Lovelady First United Methodist Church. Norma Dell was instrumental with the restoration of the Lovelady Old Gym remaining so dedicated, spending many hours raising funds and seeing to the maintenance and care of her beloved gym.

Norma Dell is survived by husband, Jerry Jones of Lovelady; sons, Louis A. “Binky” Monk and wife, Debbie of Lovelady, Bruce D. Monk and wife, Lawanna; grandchildren, Mandy Wilson and husband, Greg of Lovelady, Kyle Monk and wife, Tara of Lovelady, Cayla Ables and husband, Cody of Tyler, Brandon Monk and Danielle Brooker of North Zulch; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Monk, Lane Wilson, Graeson Monk, Levi Wilson, Brynn Ables, Lyla Ables, Tyson Ables; step-daughter, Nicole Lolley and husband, Craig of Richards; step-grandchildren, Hunter and Hawkin Lolley of Richards. She was preceded in death by parents,   L. H. and Eslie Monzingo.

Funeral services for Norma Dell Monzingo Jones will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2018 in the Lovelady Old Gym with Rev. Max Nichter officiating. Interment will follow in the Lovelady Evergreen Cemetery. Family will receive friends for visitation Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Callaway-Allee Funeral Home.

    Heart felt sympathy to you and your family. Norma was the first friend that I made when I became the women’s basketball coach for one year at Sam Houston. What a beautiful person inside and out, with a contagious smile and wonderful laugh….. She will be greatly missed.

  18. Norma Dell and my uncle, Melvin Reimer, were great friends for many, many years and as soon as I was introduced, she became a great friend of mine. There will never be another Norma Dell Jones and it was a joy to have known her all these years. Such an amazing lady.

In the fall of 1967, we moved from Houston to Crockett and on Monday, October 16th, she was my 8th grade Social Studies teacher… From that moment forward, she has been someone I learned to trust and respect… Since I was a graduate of SHSU, I know how deeply she felt about the University, and developed the ground floor of the Alumni Association. Always kind to everyone she came into contact with selfless generosity… A beautiful soul… God bless!

  33. I was very sad to hear about the loss of Norma Dell. I have never known anyone that worked any harder than she did when I was a student at SHSU. She was a wonderful friend and roll model and I will never forget her.
