Russell Clayton Sanford, age 72, went to be with Our Lord on Friday, August 9, 2019 in Houston. Russell was born in Houston September 3, 1946 to parents Loniel Clayton Sanford, Sr. and Juanita Lulu Weir Sanford. He spent his summers in Center (Shelby County) helping his grandparents on the farm; attended Sam Houston High School graduating in 1965 and was an Eagle Scout in the Boys Scouts of America. Russell attended University of Houston, Sam Houston State University and Texas A&M for advanced certificates (in law enforcement and management). He served in the U S Air Force during Vietnam, rising to the rank Staff Sargent. After leaving the service, Russell became a police officer for the Federal government before joining Harris County Constable, Precinct 1, where he rose to the rank of Captain before retiring in January 1999. After retirement he worked as an officer for the River Oaks Patrol for a few years. Russell was an endowed member of the Grand Lodge of Texas as a member of Masonic Lodge 1412 A.F.&A.M. Aldine, Scottish Rites, Arabia Shrine Temple (Houston) and once a member of York Rites. For several years he was a member of the Charity’s Twin Stackers Cooking Team and participated at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo BBQ Cook-Off. Russell helped feed the cowboy competitors at the Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo. Russell’s hobbies included fishing and hunting, watching western movies/tv shows, law enforcement related shows, spending time with family and friends, attending the little league baseball games of Aubrey’s, soccer games of Ruthie’s and plays/musicals to watch Sam. In Russell’s spare time he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter doing whatever she enjoyed (Zoo, movies, even shopping at the mall).

Russell is survived by wife, Vicki Leavell; granddaughter, Miracle Margaret Garcia; ex-wife, Nell Craddock and husband Joe; numerous other loving relatives and friends, including doctors, nurses and therapists that became very close friends. He was preceded in death by daughter, Margaret D. Sanford Garcia; parents, Loniel Clayton Sanford, Sr. and Juanita Weir Sanford; sister, Shirley Sanford; brothers Loniel Clayton Sanford, Jr. and Leonard Sanford.

Memorial services for Russell Clayton Sanford will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2019 in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel, Crockett, Rev. Trent Henderson, officiating. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite animal rescue or your local Masonic Lodge.
