Theresa Cochran

Theresa Cochran picTheresa Drott Cochran, 61, of Crockett, TX, passed away on February 19, 2021 from complications due to liver cancer. Theresa was born on June 27, 1959 in Lake Charles, LA to Ted and Catherine Drott. She graduated from McNeese University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. While attending McNeese, she was active at the Baptist Student Union where met the love of her life, James Michael “Mike” Cochran. They married February 25, 1984. They had three children, Elizabeth, Daniel, & David, who were her pride and joy.

Theresa worked as a school teacher and raised her children as she supported Mike as he worked through medical school and residency. In the summer of 1990, the family moved to Crockett where Theresa lived and served for the rest of her life.  She believed that Jesus Christ was her Lord and Savior and the only way to eternal life was through Him. Her faith was of utmost importance to her and was greatly influenced by her mother, the local church, and her time at the BSU.

Theresa was first a mother who loved her kids and raised them to love the Lord. Then she was a servant, always finding ways to serve and bless the community of Crockett. She greatly enjoyed reading and studying the Word of God, and was very gifted at preparing a study for others, as many who have been in her Bible studies and Sunday Schools can attest. She always pointed people to the gospel and a relationship with Jesus. She consistently served in Vacation Bible Schools and by teaching Bible studies at Houston County Nursing Home. In addition, Theresa was a Pack and Den Leader for Cub Scouts, a CASA board member and volunteer, a school board member, substitute teacher, math and science tutor, and more. Theresa’s Christian walk was truly one marked by service.

Theresa was also a prayer warrior. Her greatest prayer for her children was that they would marry gospel-believing Christian spouses, and all three did.

Theresa was very bright, analytical, and inventive. An engineer by training and a homemaker by practice, Theresa loved to sew, make crafts, and create items out of raw and leftover material. She never let anything go to waste.

Theresa touched many hearts and lives and will be deeply missed by her community.

Theresa is survived by her loving family including, husband Mike Cochran of Crockett; daughter, Elizabeth Valdes & husband Matt of San Antonio; son, Daniel Cochran & wife Elizabeth of Katy; son, David Cochran & wife Jasmine of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren, Sophia, Henry, Jack, & Ethan Valdes; Christopher, Eleanor, & Annabelle Cochran; and Theodore Cochran; father, Ted Drott; brother, Bob Drott; two sisters, Debbie Ott and Kay Stephenson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Drott.

My heart and prayers go out to all of you at this time. I will always remember Teresa as pure and giving soul and hold on to our curbside conversations about the kids and grandkids. I will hold on most to our last conversation just prior to her diagnosis about my yard and of coarse we always ended up on the kids and grands. May God place his angels around you all and provide comfort during this time. We are always here for you Dr Cochran as you have been for us so many times. Just let us know what you need.

  13. Kimberly, Daniel, Sheila and I have enjoyed Teresa and Teddy coming by our house on their walks. We miss them. Teresa always had a good word and knew her opinion – which I (almost) always agreed with. She liked to talk about her children and grandchildren. She and Mike are thoughtful neighbors in that they have loaned us a stroller and a kids trampoline for Daniel. She loved the Lord and was not bashful about her faith – Praise the Lord. We know where see is – in the arms of her Savior.
