Thomas L. “Buster” Allen, age 84 of Houston County, passed away on Monday morning, September 16, 2019 in Crockett. Thomas was born in Alto to parents Sam Tom Allen (Alto) and Rosa Louise Williams Allen (Hemphill) on January 28, 1935. Buster attended Alto High School as a star running back on the football team – earning a scholarship to Henderson Jr. College in Athens in 1954, where he played for two-years until suffering an ankle injury causing his return to Alto. Buster then went to work for the Texas Highway Department.

In 1959, Thomas moved to Houston and was introduced to the love of his life and soon to be wife of 40 years, Ms. Shirley Marie Akers at the Granada Theater on Tidwell and Jensen, by Shirley’s brother. They married July 1, 1960. Thomas worked as a Longshoreman from 1963 until his retirement in 2000 after 27 years of service. In 1983 Thomas and Shirley started working on their dream home on Houston County Lake, where Thomas was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer – and a member of the Spring Creek Country Club. Thomas lost his wife after an extended illness, September 15, 2000.

Thomas is survived by his daughter, Terri Allen of Crockett; son, Thomas Lee Allen and wife, Peggy of Oregon City, OR; two granddaughters, Kailee Marie Allen (26) and Claire Francis Allen (23) also of Oregon City, OR; sister, Hallene Thomson and husband, Glen of Houston; brother, James Allen of Nacogdoches. Buster was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Allen; parents, Sam Tom and Rosa Louise Williams Allen; two sisters, Mary Lee Cole (MS) and Rosa Bell Holcomb (Alto).

Thomas and his best friend “Molly B” (his Beagle) will be joining his beloved Shirley.

A memorial celebration for Thomas L. “Buster” Allen will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the Ira Rials Park Pavilion in Golden Acres Subdivision. Everyone is invited to Thomas’ home afterwards for visitation at 160 Dailey Rd.
