William Albert York

William Albert York, age 90 years, of Grapeland, previously of Dumas, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019. He was born to parents Albert Anthony York and Maxine Fowler Brians York August 18, 1928 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. William was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Navy.  In the late 1980’s, he was instrumental in creating the Senior Citizens Center in Dumas, Texas. William was a member of the Masonic Lodge #1009, past patron of the Dumas Eastern Star #653, and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He retired from Phillips 66, where he worked for over 35 years as an instrument technician.

William is survived by his wife of 72 years, Evajo of Grapeland; son, Jack York and wife, Alma of Amarillo; daughters, Judy LaRue and husband, Raymond of Grapeland, Carla Floyd and husband, Steven of Dayton, Ohio, “Prudy” Hammon and husband, Ron of Pflugerville; grandchildren, Jason York and wife, Tamara, Jessica York, Justin York and wife, Kristi, Melanie Coleman and husband, Rodney, Ramona Ackley and husband, Charles, Wendell Wolfe, Shawn Jones, Damon Cain, Charisa Cain; 19 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Katherine Christensen of Ovieda, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Maxine York, and stepfather, Faye Brians.

  1. Bill served in most of the offices of Dumas Masonic Lodge AM & FM 1009. He also helped start the Dumas Retirement Center. Bill worked for Phillips Chemical Company and then transferd to another Phillips operation. Bill also operated his own business.

    I had the privilege of working with Bill at Phillips and at Dumas Masonic Lodge. Both of those opportunities were a real wonderful part of my life experience.
